The English muffin deserves better. Most come flat, dry, unremarkable — forgotten before the last bite. Muffin Lab was born from the belief that bread is the foundation of everything, and foundations should be extraordinary.
A Brooklyn Kid Who Loved Breakfast Sandwiches
My name is Janneh Merritt. I’m a dad, husband, mentor — and I’ve always loved a good breakfast sandwich. But I kept noticing the same thing everywhere: flat bread, runny egg, forgettable protein. There was a gap between what a breakfast sandwich could be and what most people were settling for.
I spent 20+ years in the tech sector before taking the leap to build something with my hands. Once I decided to create a great English muffin — to use the bread as a canvas — everything else came alive.
I didn’t build Muffin Lab alone. My son and daughter are the best mini assistants. My wife and mother-in-law are our most loyal (and honest) taste testers. This is a family operation, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
It’s a Saturday morning. The light is just right — gold through the window. You split the muffin and watch the nooks open up, still warm. The smell hits first. Butter. A whisper of honey. You don’t rush it. You sit down. You take a bite. For a second, nothing else matters — not the calendar, not the commute, not the noise. Just this. Just right now. That’s what we’re baking for.

From our base of operations in San Ramon, we’ve already served 250+ events across the Bay Area, built a loyal market following, and established ourselves at breweries and vineyards from Oakland to Livermore.
Next: a brick-and-mortar location. Then retail. Then the nation. We’re not in a rush to grow fast — we’re focused on growing right.
